“This selection shows the two tonal and thematic extremes in which, until now, my work has developed.
They are not opposite writings: in both moments (there is no other option) I start from the senses, and in each text I seek to glimpse what lies beyond the flesh and the words themselves.
I investigate, from here, what there is before and after existence, and the way in which that transcendence attempts – and perhaps achieves – communicate with us.
I believe that poetry is a translation of silence, or, a deciphering of invisible signals hidden behind the tangible.
<p><strong>Manuel Iris (1983)</strong> es un poeta mexicano radicado en Estados Unidos cuya obra ha recibido reconocimiento nacional e internacional.
Fue <strong>Poeta Laureado de la ciudad de Cincinnati, Ohio</strong>, <strong>Escritor en Residencia de la Biblioteca Pública de Cincinnati y del Condado de Hamilton</strong>, así como de <strong>Thomas More University</strong>.
En 2021 fue nombrado miembro del <strong>Sistema Nacional de Creadores de Arte de México</strong>, uno de los mayores honores para un artista mexicano.</p>
<p>Autor de seis libros de poesía, ha sido galardonado con el <strong>Premio Nacional de Poesía “Mérida” (2009)</strong> por <em>Cuaderno de los sueños</em>, y con el <strong>Premio Regional de Poesía Rodulfo Figueroa (2014)</strong> por <em>Los disfraces del fuego</em>, obra que además fue finalista del <strong>Premio Internacional de Poesía Ciudad de la Lira</strong> en Ecuador.</p>
<p>En Estados Unidos, su antología bilingüe <em>Traducir el silencio/Translating Silence</em> (Nueva York, 2018) recibió dos reconocimientos en los <strong>International Latino Book Awards</strong> (Los Ángeles, California). Posteriormente, su libro <em>Lo que se irá/The Parting Present</em> obtuvo el <strong>Reader’s Choice Award en los Ohioana Book Awards (2022)</strong>.</p>
<p>En 2023 se publicó en España y Polonia la antología personal <em>Descifrar lo invisible/Rozszyfrować niewidzialne</em>, con traducciones al polaco de <strong>Marta Eloy Cichocka</strong>. Ese mismo año, la <strong>Universidad Autónoma de Chiapas (México)</strong> editó <em>Traductor del silencio: acercamientos críticos a la obra de Manuel Iris</em>, un volumen colectivo con ensayos, reseñas y entrevistas de 23 autores sobre su obra.</p>
<p>En 2025, su libro <em>Toda la tierra es un jardín de monstruos/The Whole Earth is a Garden of Monsters</em> obtuvo el <strong>Ambroggio Poetry Prize</strong>, otorgado por la <strong>Academy of American Poets</strong>.</p>
<p><strong>Manuel Iris</strong> ha dado lecturas, charlas y conferencias en México, Estados Unidos y Europa. Actualmente radica y escribe en <strong>Cincinnati, Ohio, Estados Unidos</strong>.</p>
