David Alexander (writing under the pen name Juan de Alvarado y Alencastre) is a native of the metropolitan area of Cleveland, Ohio. He studied Spanish and Italian literature and earned his Ph.D. in Hispanic and Romance Linguistics from The Ohio State University. Having developed a passion for storytelling at an early age, he began writing his first short stories under the literary influence of Miguel de Cervantes. His fiction and literary translations have appeared in numerous university journals and literary reviews, alongside an extensive career as a university professor, translator, and interpreter. He considers himself a citizen of Eternal Spain, an adoptive son of Ecuador, and a spiritual highlander. He currently writes poetry in Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, and Catalan.
