Book club

I read in Spanish. And you??

Join a stimulating club where adults and children enjoy reading and creativity.

Adults participate in literary discussions, read suggested books, and share effective reading techniques. Meanwhile, children explore bilingual stories, express their ideas, and create cardboard books with recycled materials.

Come and join our community, where reading and imagination meet to enrich our lives.

Sessions for adults:

Adult Sessions: We invite the group of participants to read a suggested book at the same time: a novel, short story, poems, etc.

Each one does it at home, although sometimes they are encouraged to read some fragments out loud; but fundamentally, at the meetings everyone comments on the pages read since the previous meeting.

The club members also share their various techniques to read more efficiently and quickly.

Our literary gatherings are complemented by different cultural activities such as meetings with authors who reside in the city of Columbus.

We visit book fairs and attend book presentations.

Sessions for children:

In parallel, we will develop sessions for children, aged between 6 and 14 years old.

Currently, we use a different dynamic, proposing group reading of a short children’s story, preferably bilingual: Spanish-English.

Once the story is finished, the club facilitator invites them to express their ideas about the story, with the intention of promoting reading comprehension.

Once everyone has expressed their own interpretations, they are invited to depict them in drawings, creating an original front cover and back cover, as well as the design of the interior pages. All of this is done using recycled materials: cardboard, cardstock, tempera paints, crayons, etc.

At the end, each child should be creating their own book.

This technique is known as the making of Cardboard Books.

This program is driven by the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at Ohio State University.
