Yo leo en español. ¿Y tú'

Book club

I read in Spanish. And you?

Join the stimulating club where adults and children enjoy reading and creativity.

Adults participate in literary discussions, read suggested books, and share techniques for efficient reading.

Los niños exploran cuentos bilingües, expresan sus ideas y crean libros cartoneros con materiales reciclados.

Sessions for adults:

We invite the group of participants to read a suggested book together: novel, short stories, poems, etc.
Each person reads it at home, though sometimes they’re encouraged to read aloud some excerpts; but mainly, during the meetings, everyone discusses the pages they’ve read since the last gathering.

The club members also share their various techniques for reading more efficiently and quickly.

Our literary discussions are complemented by various cultural activities such as meetings with authors who reside in the city of Columbus.

Sessions for children:

In parallel, we will develop sessions for children, aged between 6 and 14 years old.

Currently, we use a different dynamic, proposing group reading of a short children’s story, preferably bilingual: Spanish-English.

Once finished, the club leader invites them to express their ideas about the story, this with the intention of promoting reading comprehension, and once everyone has expressed their own interpretations, they are invited to translate them into drawings, creating in beginning an original cover and back cover, as well as the design of the interior pages, all using recycled items: cardboard, cardboard, tempera paints, crayons, etc.

At the end, each child should be creating their own book.

This technique is known as the making of Cardboard Books.
